A case launched by Environment East Gippsland (EEG) to sue the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) has been settled before reaching court.

EEG was suing the Victorian Government for its lack of action to protect four of the state's unprotected threatened species.

The Flora and Fauna Act says species listed as threatened must have an action plan drawn up as soon as possible.

EEG says the four species chosen had been waiting for action plans between 10 and 18 years.

Under the settlement, the DEPI has agreed to prepare plans for the four species in the next eight months.
