Environmental Justice Australia is looking for an experienced litigation lawyer to take up a leadership role in early 2018.   

We’re seeking expression of interest from committed lawyers with substantial litigation experience to join our team in our office in the 60L Green Building in Melbourne.   

The lawyer we are looking for will lead the development and execution of innovative legal strategies that benefit the community and the environment, working with other lawyers in our team across multiple jurisdictions.   She or he will have the aptitude and experience necessary to play a leadership role as a principal of our legal practice. 

Apart from some basic pre-requisites – an unsupervised practicing certificate; substantial experience in litigation – what matters to us most is a demonstrated commitment to using your legal expertise for good. 

Ideally you will have at least five years post admission experience, with a very substantial grounding in litigation.  We also envisage that you will have worked in environmental law, particularly on matters related to pollution control, however we are happy to consider candidates who can make the case that they have transferrable skills from other areas of litigation practice. 

Our team at Environmental Justice Australia values collaboration and teamwork and our ideal candidate must be able to work effectively with our small but effective team of lawyers, fundraising and communications staff, as well as collaborators and clients in organisations of all sizes.    

Experience in building and developing relationships, media interviews, strategy development, planning and evaluation, organisational management, fundraising and public speaking would all be invaluable.  You will need a good knowledge of climate change and environmental issues. 

We would prefer to recruit someone to work full time, however we will consider four days per week or other flexible arrangements for the right person who is juggling family, study or other commitments.
