A CLIMATE change activist has launched legal action against Victoria Police after they refused to destroy footage of the activist at a rally at the Hazelwood power station.

Lisa Caripis – a researcher at the University of Melbourne law school – was one of about 200 people at a rally in October 2010 calling for the closure of Hazelwood.

Police attended the rally in large numbers, and Ms Caripis said they had filmed protesters all day.

I fould it quite intimidating, she said.

Ms Caripis has taken her complaint to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, after it was rejected by the Victorian Privacy Commissioner in October last year. A directions hearing is scheduled for February 6.

Victoria Police would not comment yesterday.
